From Hot HIIT Pilates to outdoor group workouts and nightclub-esque boxing studios, we round up the best places to exercise in the City of Sails.

 Life Co-Lab

What is it?

Life Co-Lab combines self-care with exercise in an undoubtedly inclusive, safe environment. Regardless of your fitness ability, age, size or gender, the team will make you feel welcome like you’re part of the family. It is worth trying out their small group workouts – capped at eight people, enjoy exercising with like-minded people while still having someone to keep a close eye on your form. To recharge – book into their infrared sauna. Available in various colours – each boasts its own health benefits, from improving circulation to reducing joint pain.

Core Collective

What is it?

CC is a community-centric studio offering every client the attention they need to push their strength and perfect their form.

Owner and instructor Kate Hanline has created a boutique method and training style that is intensive, energising, encourages strength and muscle gain in all the wanted areas of the body, promotes a healthy body and mind, and is fun!

CC caters for every level, with various classes ranging from beginner to intermediate. Have a baby on the way? Core Collective’s prenatal classes are suitable for every stage of pregnancy – it’s the perfect way to prepare for birth while maintaining strength safely.

Book online here. If you’re new, try your first class for $20 or buy a pack of 6 for $79 (to be used within two weeks). Spaces are limited, so advanced bookings are essential.

Sweat Yoga

What is it?

Sweat is a Hot Yoga and Hot HIIT Pilates studio that combines community, sweat-inducing strength, and meditative mindfulness for all levels. Bruce Simons and his passionate team create a welcoming community that isn’t afraid to push each person to their physical and mental edge. High temperatures warm the muscles, allowing them to stretch to new limits while cleansing and purifying the body and mind.

Sweat has its own easy-to-use booking application. You can download it from the app store here. If you’re new to Sweat, they offer a hot two-week introductory deal of unlimited classes for $40.

Fitness All Together 

What is it?

FAT is an outdoor movement community that brings people together for fun, lighthearted workouts. Each session is a snappy 30-45 minute strength, endurance or cardio workout. If your team needs an endorphin lift, FAT offers corporate training sessions. For homebodies, FAT On Demand provides online HIIT, Yoga and Pilates classes.

Where is it?

Silo Park in Downtown Auckland. For private classes, FAT can come to you.

Playground Fitness

What is it?

Playground Fitness offers seven classes across two blacklit studio rooms. There’s something for everyone, from Lean & Mean to Mums & Bubs. Playground fitness likes to add personalisation into group workouts through a personal training experience in a small group. You’ll be able to find your edge as each person trains with a heart rate monitor. Personal trainers customise your workout according to your goals, fitness ability and possible injuries. Lastly, cool down and refuel at their smoothie and coffee bar.

What is it?

If anyone has found a way to make exercise fun, it’s Studio Box. Instructors teach the skills of boxing while incorporating strength and conditioning work. No need to partner up; your only opponent is yourself as you spar with your boxing bag. Each session is 45 minutes, broken into 10 speedy rounds followed by a cooldown and breathwork. High energy music and passionate instructors keep you buzzing until the very last burpee. Studio Box also offers yoga classes suitable to all levels, private one-on-ones and corporate training.

Keep Fit is a relaxed, fun-fuelled community with full gym facilities, personal training, and group workouts. Memberships are reasonably priced, with impressive offerings for every situation. Keep Fit group classes, and boot camps offer cardio blasts and dynamic strength training – think burpees and EMOM workouts. Members also get to enjoy 24/7 access to facilities. Keep Fit is also a fantastic option for those who frequent the area at the weekends, offering weekend-only memberships and world-class personal training sessions.
